The healthcare system is strained, and most hospitals lack adequate supplies. Overpopulation in refugee camps also causes multiple problems, including outbreaks of life-threatening diseases such as dysentery, dengue fever, malaria and COVID-19, but which are preventable and treatable.

UNICEF* estimates there were more than 66,000 cases of measles in children last year, and 25-30 percent of deaths in children below 5 can be attributed to respiratory tract infections. Hundreds of mothers and children are also suffering severe malnutrition. HAGAR's mobile clinic visits the different camps to attend to patients' needs.
