How does HAGAR select the gifts in the catalogue?
All the gifts in the catalogue are basic components that are integral to the recovery and reintegration programmes that HAGAR runs in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam, to restore the lives of the victim survivors.
And, they too are the exact wishes on the hearts of the women and children - items that they hope to have in order to live a new life. When you purchase a gift for a struggling child or woman, you are helping to fulfill a wish for something that is truly needed and that will make a positive difference in their lives.
Is it possible to designate my gift to a particular country e.g. Cambodia?
Certainly, although it would be most helpful if you could allow HAGAR the flexibility to assign the gift to the country that has the most dire needs in that particular area.
If you would really like to give to a specific country, please inform us via email (email@example.com) by forwarding your online order confirmation and let us know your country preference. If you are submitting the physical order form to us, please indicate that on the gift order form.
How can I be sure that these gifts will really reach the survivors in those mentioned countries?
Hagar Singapore is a registered charity under the Singapore Charities Act. All our accounts are audited annually by a publicly certified accounting firm. As part of accountability, a summary report featuring all the gifts that are purchased and distributed to respective countries and recovery projects will be sent to all donors within a year after your purchase.
Will all the survivors cared for by HAGAR receive a gift? Will anyone be left out?
It is definitely our goal to ensure all survivors get the adequate help they need in their journey to recovery. HAGAR Singapore will find all ways to get the financial support to buy these essential gifts for all the children and women under our care.
We need your help. Please help us spread the word to your friends and contacts who may be interested to support these survivors in their recovery journey.
What happens when some gifts are more popular than the rest? Will some needs go unmet in that instance?
In the event where we receive more donations to buy gifts for a particular cause than what is needed, HAGAR will channel the funds to make up for the shortfall in donations for other equally critical gifts to the survivors. This will ensure the most urgent needs of survivors are adequately met.
How does the monthly giving for Empower a Survivor work? What does he/she get?
Your monthly support of $50 will provide him/her with:
HAGAR pools donations to provide critical recovery services to as many survivor victims as possible. Your regular support will enable HAGAR to walk the whole journey of recovery with these survivors until they become fully restored physically and emotionally, and can stand on their own feet again. We do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to restore a broken life.
Recovery from such extreme abuse and trauma takes time. Therefore, your regular contribution is the BEST gift of help to any survivor of human rights abuse.
Will I get to know exactly who is receiving the help from my monies?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reveal the identity of these beneficiaries and their families. Due to their sensitive backgrounds, our child protection policies do not allow us to share his/her real identity. For the same reason, we cannot reveal their names, photos and personal data.
Although we can't share updates on a specific beneficiary, we will share stories, progress updates of real survivors being helped through our monthly e-newsletters and annual reports.
When you Empower a Survivor, you will receive:
Does my entire contribution go towards the recovery programmes for the survivors?
HAGAR is committed to ensuring that the maximum amount of donations received go directly towards supporting the needs of survivors. We utilise no more than 20 cents of every dollar on administrative expenses.
Will I get any tax exemption for my contribution?
All donations to Hagar Singapore are non tax-deductible. Donations to Hagar Singapore do not benefit from tax exemption and deductibles as the gifts are used to help survivor victims globally beyond Singapore.
When is the closing date for giving? When must I submit my orders?
This gift catalogue is applicable until it is further updated. However, due to the urgency of funding needs for the programmes in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam, we need to secure at least $100,000 by 31 January 2020. Please take action today!
