Trafficking Crackdown: From Darkness to Light
Raagini, human trafficking survivor
In 2024, a major trafficking case in Singapore was uncovered through strengthened collaboration between Hagar and government authorities. As recruitment scams surged, Hagar’s close work with officials to investigate exploitative practices; particularly in the entertainment sector – led to the rescue of eight victims.
Raagini, just 22 at the time, was one of them. Her young life had already been scarred by abuse and a forced marriage before traffickers deceived her with the promise of a job in Singapore.
Instead, she was trapped in a nightclub, coerced into sexual exploitation, threatened, and stripped of her freedom.
When police found her during the raid, she was imprisoned in her accommodation – fearful, anxious, and clinging to hope of reuniting with her two-year-old son.
With Hagar’s support, Raagini began the hard but courageous journey of healing. She received trauma recovery care, language and computer training, and vital job skills. While assisting the Singapore government as a court witness, she also secured work in a five-star hotel, where she thrived as a room attendant; confidently serving guests and earning their appreciation.
Today, Raagini has returned home, standing tall in her hard-won freedom. Her story is not only her own victory but a beacon of hope for countless other women and girls longing for safety and a future. When you give through Hagar, you help survivors like Raagini rebuild their lives with dignity—through trauma recovery, legal support, and skills training that sustain long-term healing and independence.
