Escaping Fear, Finding Hope: A New Chapter

Sreyneang, sex exploitation survivor

At just 15, Sreyneang’s life was shaped by hardship. Growing up in rural Cambodia, poverty and rising family debt forced her to leave school and work in a restaurant. It was there that her life took a devastating turn.

Sreyneang endured unimaginable abuse, including sex trafficking and assault. When she bravely escaped and shared her story with her parents, they sought justice—only to be met with threats and rejection from local authorities.

Overwhelmed and desperate, her family lived in fear until a local organisation referred them to Hagar. Hagar’s team responded immediately, providing medical care, trauma counselling, legal support, and essential services.

“I never thought i will be free one day. I am so lucky to meet Hagar, I am not scared anymore, i have skills and i can work hard to support my family” — Sreyneang

Last year, with the help of her lawyer, she won compensation from her trafficker. No longer living in fear, Sreyneang discovered her passion for hairdressing. Today, she works in a salon, gaining skills and dreaming of opening her own shop. Her journey is one of courage, resilience, and renewal. With the right support, Sreyneang has transformed from a survivor into a confident young woman with a future full of promise.

Recovery is not just about rescue—it’s about rebuilding lives. Hagar walks alongside survivors and their families and communities to support safe reintegration, especially for those who’ve endured years of exploitation. This crucial step helps prevent stigma and re-trafficking. When you give through Hagar, you’re not just helping one person—you’re strengthening entire communities and ensuring survivors are welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
